Early in the third set of a 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Steve Johnson, Coric ran down a lob and replied with a shot known as a "tweener" that flew over the head of his 6-foot-2 (1.88-meter) opponent and landed within inches of the baseline.

Croatia's world No.6 Cilic is set to face Steve Johnson in the duel between the side's two top players but U.S. captain Jim Courier could bring in Sam Querrey for the pivotal fourth rubber.

Borna Coric kept his cool to prevail in a thrilling winner-takes-all duel with fellow young gun Frances Tiafoe on Sunday and steer Croatia into the final of the Davis Cup for the second time in three years with a monumental 3-2 victory over the U.S.

Ten-time champions France made into the final for the second consecutive year, aiming at achieving their title defense against Croatia at home late in November.

Yet for a moment, after Coric had capitulated 7-0 in the first set breaker and 13-11 in the third set decider, the shocked fans in the Dalmatian resort feared Croatia could be on the wrong end of one of the competition's unlikeliest comebacks.

"I'm appropriate specializing in this tie and working over again".

Davis Cup debutant Tiafoe had lost in straight sets to Cilic on Friday, but he was one set away from a victory against Coric, only for the American to win just four matches across the final two.

Ramos calmed the raucous crowd on several occasions and came down from his chair to check a few ball marks in the clay but otherwise had no impact on the match, which Cilic won in straight sets to give Croatia a 2-0 lead. The American great argued she wasn't being treated the same as some male players.

"You know I can not talk about that", Ramos said.

France took an unassailable 3-0 semi-final lead over Spain earlier on Saturday to secure a 19th final appearance.

Croatia is looking to extend its ideal record over the U.S.to 5-0.

The result means that Austria, which last played in the World Group in 2013, will be seeded for the 24-team qualifying round of the revamped Davis Cup in February.

Thiem and Novak won the singles on Friday to give the hosts a 2-0 lead, but Australia captain Lleyton Hewitt teamed with John Peers to win the doubles rubber the following day and keep the tie open.
