Thomas Meunier made it 2-1 five minutes before halftime, and Mbappe leveled the score against the run of play late in the second half.

James Milner, an enormous presence throughout the night, fired home a nerveless penalty to double the advantage-his celebration was a little more old-school...

If you play against PSG you have to step up. Prior to Daniel Sturridge heading home their opening goal of the game, Neymar had dropped back to help his defence deal with the home side's relentless pressure.

And on a typically thunderous Champions League night at Anfield, Liverpool simply carried on where they left off here previous year, emphasising once more that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season - and serious contenders should they reach the knockout stage. But at PSG, he is just an expensive decoration.

I think I said before the game, the cool development of our club is when you hear Liverpool plays PSG, you don't think we are without any chance anymore and I would say one, two, three years ago, everybody would have thought we can not climb there.

Neymar's display came in for criticism despite him laying on Mbappe's 83rd-minute leveller and Klopp revealed afterwards that Liverpool planned to target the Brazil superstar's lack of defensive work.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has said that Fabinho will take time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League, however, playing him in Europe against familiar French opposition could be the ideal method of integration.

"We were in trouble in the first half, but we showed character and scored".

PSG threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser but the likes of Neymar and Mbappe were struggling to carve out chances.

Great players need to be challenged regularly, both by opponents and by their teammates, but that is not happening for Neymar in Paris. Perhaps he needs to move back to La Liga or to the Premier League so that he can be tested on a weekly basis rather than once every few weeks in the Champions League. I don't know what it has to do with the Tottenham game.

He isn't getting the best out of himself and PSG.
