Three people were injured after a auto rammed into pedestrians outside a mosque in London, police said.

Occupants of the auto are said to have shouted anti-Muslim taunts in the attack in Cricklewood, north west London around 12.35am this morning.

TWO people have been taken to hospital after a vehicle collided with them outside an Islamic centre in north London.

"The auto then drove near the centre and the occupants were involved in a confrontation with a large group of people visiting the centre".

Three men and a woman, all in their mid-20s, allegedly shouted Islamophobic abuse outside the centre in Brent before the auto they were in hit three men at speed and left the scene, the Metropolitan police said.

In a statement posted on social media, the association said a red Nissan Juke "swerved into innocent bystanders, hitting at least five people of which three were seriously injured".

On June 19 a year ago Darren Osborne ploughed a van into people leaving late-night prayers at a mosque in Finsbury Park in north London, killing one man and injuring 11 others.

The incident is not being treated as terror-related, but police are looking into the possibility that it was an "Islamophobic hate crime", the BBC reports.

Occupants of the vehicle, inside a private auto park at the Islamic centre, were told to leave by security at around 12.20am for anti-social behaviour, drinking and apparently using drugs, the force said.

'These acts of bravery potentially saved the lives of dozens of innocent people from being taken'.

The group in the auto were reported to be drinking and taking drugs before the incident, according to police.

The group allegedly made "comments of an Islamophobic nature". No arrests have yet been made. It proceeded to make off at speed colliding with three individuals as it left.

Osborne, who had left a note in the van in which he said he was seeking revenge for Islamist terror attacks and a child sex scandal, was charged with terrorism-related murder and sentenced to life in prison in February.

"Inquiries into the full circumstances of the collision are ongoing". If you were there at the time and have information I would urge you to contact police with information.

'Extra neighbourhood police patrols have been stepped up in the area and officers will be on hand to speak with those in the local community'.
