AMG's first offering for the new A-Class has been revealed in the form of the Mercedes-AMG A 35.

The newcomer creates a logical bridge the A-Class line-up, while making those AMG thrills accessible to a larger audience. With launch control activated, the A35 will surge from 0-100km/h in a claimed 4.7 seconds, meaning it's still one of the fastest hatchbacks on the block.

That grunt is sent to an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

With great power comes great responsibility, which is why the engineers have fitted the A35 with beefy 350-mm front and 330-mm rear disc brakes.

The A35 4Matic builds on the sharpened appearance of the fourth-generation A-class with a unique grille, more heavily structured front bumper, standard 18-inch alloy wheels, wider sills, bold tailgate-mounted spoiler and a new rear bumper featuring a prominent diffuser element bookmarked each side by blackened round tailpipes. A range of Sport modes are available through AMG Dynamic Select including "Slippery", "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport +" and "Individual". An AMG exhaust system has an automatically controlled flap for sound variation with the drive program. In addition, the all-paw setup varies from a FWD-only configuration to an even 50:50 distribution between the front and rear axle.

There's additional adjustment for the ESP system, with "Basic" and "Advanced" modes on offer, while the optional adaptive damper systems come with three modes as well.

The interior of the A35 features the dual-screen layout of the regular A-Class, including the MBUX infotainment system and touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel. Stitching contrasts in red.

The AMG A35 is also available with AMG Track Pace telemetry, which is incorporated into MBUX to log more than 80 vehicle-specific data points while driving on a track.

Several new pictures of the Mercedes-AMG A35 have surfaced online, ahead of the model's unveiling at the Paris Motor Show.
