Netflix has unveiled the trailer for its new horror series The Haunting of Hill House, containing pretty much every creepy horror trope you can think of.

Jackson's novel centers around five siblings who grew up in the most haunted house in America. The series will follow the kids as adults, who are drawn back to Hill House after a family tragedy, with flashbacks to their childhood in the mansion.

The Haunting of Hill House is set to premiere its ten-episode-long first season on Netflix on 12 October.

Created, directed and executive-produced by Mike Flanagan (Hush, Oculus), The Haunting of Hill House cast includes Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Carla Gugino (Political Animals), Timothy Hutton (American Crime), Elizabeth Reaser (Manhunt: Unabomber), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Emerald City), Henry Thomas (Better Things), Kate Siegel (Hush), Victoria Pedretti, Lulu Wilson (Sharp Objects), McKenna Grace (Designated Survivor), Paxton Singleton, Violet McGraw and Julian Hilliard. Apparently, growing up in a haunted house will really mess you up.

This looks excellent. There's intricate character work (one of the hallmarks of the original novel) on display as we time hop through the trailer and see the younger and older versions of the family members, with all the actors looking on top of their game. A widely-panned remake for Spielberg's Dreamworks Pictures was released in 1999, direct by Jan de Bont and starring Liam Neeson (The Commuter) and Lili Taylor (The Conjuring) and featuring laughable CGI. Hearing a little girl talk about having a dream about feeling so miserable she wants to die will never not be unnerving, you know?
