Play Games on Multiple Consoles With Nintendo Switch Online

If you are a Nintendo Switch Online member, you can now pre-order the controllers.

The launch of Nintendo Switch Online this week adds a few new features to the year-old console, including an array of NES games, cloud backups for some titles, and co-operative gaming.

It's not quite simultaneous multi-platform-you can only play a particular game on one console at a time-a la Netflix streaming, but it should be enough to satisfy hardcore Nintendo fans.

The eShop maintenance is over, and now the games begin. The first Switch that logs onto the Nintendo eShop will be activated as the primary console though you can change that by deactivating the current console and then accessing the eShop on a different one. With that out of the way, Nintendo has detailed what you can and can't do with owned content on consoles other than your primary Switch in a new article on its support site.

Nintendo Switch Update Brings Digital Game Sharing for Those Who Own Multiple Switch Consoles

You can purchase and download software and play your games on a non-primary console, as long as you're connected to the internet.

The game you're playing will pause automatically when you lose that internet connection and resume when your connection is restored. Users with foreign accounts - notably, Japan - can also download those versions of the application and play the games with Famicom box art.

There are certain limitations for Nintendo Switch Online at the moment, including cloud saves being deleted if there is a lapse in the subscription and that multiple Nintendo Accounts on the same console will need a family membership.
