Ronaldo sent off on Champions League debut for Juve

The incident happened in the 30th minute of the match at the Mestalla Stadium in Valencia, when Ronaldo seemed to have struck down a defender in the box.

Manchester United top the early Group H table, though, after continuing their recent upturn in form by brushing aside Young Boys 3-0 in Bern to notch a third straight win in all competitions.

Robert Lewandowski put them ahead in the 10th minute, before Renato Sanches netted in the second half to score his first goal since returning to Germany after his miserable loan spell at Swansea.

The straight red means Ronaldo would miss Juventus' trip to Manchester United, where he spent six seasons from 2003 to 2009 and blossomed into one of the world's best players, on Matchday 3 on October 23.

"Things have gone very badly with the red card, but you have to start thinking about preparing for Sunday".

Ronaldo saw red in a Manchester derby once more, this time for two bookable offences after a trip on Shaun Wright-Phillips and then an inexplicable handball.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Juventus scored both of their goals without their star man with Pjanic tucking away his spot kicks in the minutes either side of half-time.

Just a month later Ronaldo doubled his count of red cards at the Bernabeu when he elbowed Malaga midfielder Patrick Mtiliga in the face as he tried to escape the Dane's clutches.

According to the 51-year-old, the official ruling is that a red is shown for a kick.

Bonucci was asked for his opinion on Ronaldo's red card after the game and the central defender doesn't think the referee had a clear view of the incident.

However, there is - of course - an appeals system and the question must be asked: 'was Ronaldo correctly dismissed?'

And Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri said after Wednesday's game: "VAR would've helped the referee in this decision".
