"During far more than 90 percent of all decelerations, the Audi e-tron recovers energy exclusively via its electric motors", Audi said.

850 drones, precisely tuned to each other, flew a spectacular formation both in the event hall and in the open air, in a prelude to the electric car's worldwide premiere. If that's accurate, the e-tron will have an output of over 600 hp, and a battery pack that can be recharged to 80% capacity in just 15 mintues thanks to an 800-volt electrical system.

Audi's configurable instrument panel-called Virtual Cockpit-comes standard on the E-Tron.

Like a traditional high-end Audi quattro system, Audi's electric awd in the e-tron is able to predictively engage the front axle when the driver requests more power than the rear motor can deliver, or during wintry conditions or dynamic cornering.

The Audi crossover that reportedly starts at $74,800 was revealed shortly after other European majors took some steps to challenge Tesla's dominance in the electric vehicles market. If the customer selects the adaptive cruise assist, the system can also brake and accelerate the electric SUV predictively.

Over the next few years, a coupe version of the e-tron SUV will also be introduced, as will an electric compact vehicle.

Audi is yet to announce its future plans for the Indian market but given that the automaker is leading the charge of offering luxury EVs in India, we look forward to it bringing more affordable EVs soon.

The Audi e-tron is the first fully electrically powered series production model from the brand with the four rings. The company claims a driving range of 400km for the e-tron. Audi executives said home charging stations would cost about $1,000, depending on the home's electrical system.

Electrify America group, a Volkswagen-funded firm, will install charging stations in the country.

Audi e-tron is capable of going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 124 miles per hour. The Hungarian factory building motors for the e-tron will start with a production pace equivalent to 200 vehicles a day, Audi officials said. The e-tron will have an advanced cruise-control system that can keep the auto within a lane and maintain a set distance behind another vehicle, but the system will be designed so that drivers must keep hands on the wheel. In fact, at 4,900 mm (193 in) long, 1,930 mm (76.3 in) wide and 1,666 mm (65.5 in) tall, the e-tron is roughly the same size as a Range Rover Velar, meaning it sits somewhere between a compact luxury SUV and a mid-size one - larger than a Q5, smaller than a Q7. In Europe, the vehicle will use cameras instead of conventional mirrors to give drivers a view to the rear.
