MGM and Orion Pictures present the First Look for CHILD'S PLAY. Plaza plays a mother who gets her son the murderous doll for his birthday and then all hell breaks loose.

MGM and Orion Pictures announced yesterday that Child's Play had begun production in Vancouver.

The remake/reboot is directed by Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) from a screenplay written by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury 2) produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith (IT) via their KatzSmith Productions banner. The film will also star Brian Tyree Henry as Mike. "And nobody from the original franchise is involved, they're not gonna have Brad Dourif, they're not gonna have Don, and they're not gonna have any of us".

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, filmmaker Lars Kelvberg explained some of the details around how the film will bring Chucky, the creepy killer doll, to life using a mix of practical and visual effects, but they haven't yet cast the character's voice just yet. Last month, Child's Play 2 star Christine Elise railed against the Chucky remake, calling it a "d*ck move", and noting that it was incredibly disrespectful to be making a remake when the franchise is still healthy and moving forward. That would lead to Chucky, who is described as "a defective "Buddy doll" whose programming code was hacked so that he has no limitations to learn and also violence". He's now working on a Child's Play TV series featuring the voice of the original Chucky. It looks pretty much exactly the same as the old one, but is said to have genetic enhancements in the new film.
