Office 2019 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Visio, Access, and Publisher.

Microsoft emphasises that if you want the "most productive and most secure Office experience -with the lowest total cost of ownership for deployment and management", you will be using its Cloud-connected Office 365 ProPlus. This will include new features such as automatic suggestions-merely clicking the search box will present personalized results, such as documents you've edited recently or contacts you email regularly-and the ability to search for commands within the application.

At Ignite 2018 today, Microsoft today announced new integrations between LinkedIn and Office 365. There will be no additional feature updates provided once it reaches wide availability; customers can only expect to receive regular security updates. For its commercial customers, Microsoft is pushing users to move to its cloud-based offerings, even though it will continue to provide another on-premises release in the future. "Each time we release a new on-premises version of Office, customers ask us if this will be our last", wrote Microsoft. In the first half of next year, it will be extended to the Office desktop apps and Windows 10.

For access to premium features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive, you need an Office 365 subscription. (OneNote is free and available outside of Office, regardless of platform).

Office 2019, which is compatible with the three most recent versions of macOS and Windows 10 only, reluctantly takes aim at users who "aren't ready for the cloud". Basically, you get the features that have been added in Office 365 since Office 2016 launched, with the exception of anything that requires a connection to the cloud. There will also be a simplified migration to Office 365Pro.

Office 2019 is available to commercial volume licence customers from today and will roll out to all consumers over the next few weeks.
