Popeyes says the wings are available at the 3,000th restaurant, located at 868 C E Grand Street in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Popeyes sold the wings on Thursday at a recommended price of $5, as part of a "boneless wing bash" including six chicken wings, a choice of side, and a warm biscuit.

"Edible gold must be 23-24 carats", dietitian Alexandra Oppenheimer said, according to the magazine.

Gold, as an inert metal, is not affected by digestion and should just pass through your system relatively unaltered, The Conversation reported.

Sound like they're going to cost you an arm and a leg?
