"We've had so many opportunities and been so close and had the vehicle to win and been in position, and I don't know, it just seems to not come through", a disconsolate Almirola said after the race.

Following a dominating performance in Sunday's Gander Outdoors 400, Harvick had a pit gun malfunction cost himself and the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing the lead late in the 404-lapper. He won the first two stages and was leading when his crew sheared off a valve stem during a pit stop with 80 laps to go.

Though he eventually regained the lost lap as the highest-scored lapped auto under caution for debris on Lap 339, Harvick couldn't climb higher than sixth place before the race ended in overtime with Chase Elliott the victor.

Phelps is quoted as saying by the Associated Press: "I think for 2019, we'll have some rules that we'll put in place". Harvick led 286 laps and was on pace to sweep the Dover races until tire issues derailed his run and he finished sixth.

Elliott led the field to a restart on Lap 397, but on the backstretch during that circuit, Aric Almirola nicked the outside wall and started a chain-reaction collision that also damaged the cars of fellow playoff drivers Brad Keselowski, Alex Bowman, Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Blaney.

"It's just track position is so tough, and it's so hard to pass here". "I guess that makes up for the bad luck of losing a race with an absolute dominant vehicle". Not having that and not knowing where it was (set), I had no clue where it was throughout the whole day.

"I'm just really disappointed", Bowyer said after being checked and released from the infield care center.

"Circumstances just didn't go our way", Almirola, who ended up 13th, added.

"When he won the race at Watkins Glen, it was like the world was lifted off his shoulders", Hendrick said.

On considerably older tires, Elliott pulled ahead and cleared runner-up Denny Hamlin through Turns 1 and 2 after a restart on Lap 403 and powered his No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet across the finish line.265 of a second ahead of Hamlin's Toyota.

Johnson told his team over the radio that he thought his splitter broke.

Harvick regained the lap he lost under a debris caution called on Lap 339, but he couldn't work his way back to the front before the race ended.

Average Speed of Race Winner: 122.404 miles per hour.

Caution Flags: 5 for 31 laps.

But as Talladega looms, Busch knows one lap, or even one corner, could change a driver's fortunes quickly. And with seven wins for 2018, Harvick is all about the wins during this tight playoffs battle.

Stewart-Haas Racing holds four of the 12 playoff spots with Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch and Aric Almirola.

If something odd happens to Kevin Harvick, it's more likely to happen at Dover International Speedway than anywhere else. 1 time for 7 laps; Joey Logano 1 time for 2 laps; Clint Bowyer 1 time for 1 lap.
