Harry Kane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard named on Ballon d'Or shortlist

Modric won the 2018 Federation Internationale de Football Association men's award last month, while the women's award went to Brazil forward Marta, another Women's Ballon d'Or award nominee.

Ronaldo and Messi have won the award between them for the last 10 years.

And Coral have made him 2-5 to scoop this prize too, which commences in Paris on the 3 December.

Bale's club-mate Luka Modric, who is yet to be named as a candidate, is among the early favourites after Real's European success against the Reds and leading Croatia to the World Cup final.

Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero is nominated as is another prolific South American striker, Edinson Cavani of Uruguay and Paris Saint-Germain.

Four goalkeepers are also among the 30 - Thibaut Courtois of Belgium and Real Madrid, Liverpool and Brazil stopper Alisson Becker, Tottenham's France World Cup victor Hugo Lloris and Atletico's Jan Oblak.


Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne are contenders while Liverpool's formidable top three Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were all included.

A panel of journalists selects the Ballon d'Or victor which was first established in 1956 and will this year feature a women's award for the first time.

France internationals Amandine Henry, Amel Majri and Wendie Renard are joined on the list by Germany's Dzsenifer Marozsan, England's Lucy Bronze, Ada Hegerberg of Norway and Japan defender Saki Kumagai.

Madrid's Croatia playmaker Modric is a 4/7 favourite to win the award having won the Federation Internationale de Football Association gong for the men's player of the year.

In another first, the best under-21 player will receive the Kopa Trophy.

Sir Stanley Matthews won the first Ballon d'Or in 1956.
