The American Music Awards happened today, and even though Taylor Swift slithered away with four awards including Artist Of The Year, the real victor of the night was Cardi B. The night opens with Taylor Swift making her first awards-show performance in almost three years, and tributes promise to provide memorable moments. He also just received posthumously the Best New Artist Award at the BET Hip-Hop Awards last weekend as well.

While accepting the award for artist of the year, Swift once again urged fans to vote during the upcoming midterm elections.

Even President Donald Trump was asked about her comments on Monday.

Taylor Swift, 28, wasn't alone when she took the stage at the 2018 American Music Awards!

He told the audience they should register to vote if they cared for "equality for women, for people of colour, for the LGBTQ community, if you believe that climate change is real". "Is the midterm elections on November 6th".

Swift made headlines earlier in the week when she broke her usually apolitical thoughts to encourage voters to come out and support two Democratic candidates in her adopted home state of Tennessee.

Like Cardi B's performance, rising newcomer Ella Mai also won over the crowd when she sang the year's biggest R&B hit, Boo'd Up, starting the performance as she walked down the aisle of the Microsoft Theater. Her album, "Invasion of Privacy", was surprisingly shut of the favorite rap/hip-hop album category.

Cardi was nominated for eight awards tonight, tying her with Drake as the most-nominated artist.

South Korean boy band BTS arrive at the awards. The show will also pay tribute to Aretha Franklin, who died in August.

Other winners on the night included Migos, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello and Carrie Underwood.

Apart from Swift, the show was largely politics free.
