During a lunch meeting at the Oval Office, West wore a red "Make America Great Again" hat and spoke in front of reporters and cameras for almost 10 minutes about prison reform, mental health, the 13th Amendment, and his love for the president.

Trump told Fox and Friends Thursday: "He's a different kind of guy and that's OK with me".

It was a head-scratching afternoon at the White House on Thursday as rapper Kanye West and some of his many opinions descended upon 1600 Penn.to discuss everything from North Korea to bipolar disorder with his "brother" President Donald Trump.

Later, West gave a charged critique of the media, including SNL, where he voiced his support of Trump in an untelevised rant.

"That was quite something", Trump said at the end West freewheeling soliloquy.

"It was from the soul. He might not have thought he'd have a insane mother-f***** like [me]".

According to the Washington Post's Felicia Sonmez, quoting from another Post reporter, West referred to his own comments as "a fine wine" and also, brace yourself, said he'd be open to running for president "after 2024". "We have to bring jobs into America" West added, scolding "when we make everything in China and not America, we are cheating the country".

"I'd like to find a lot of people like Alice Johnson".

Following the Oval Office meeting, the pair were scheduled to speak with Mr Trump as well as his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner.

When asked if West could be a future president, Donald Trump said he could well be. "You made a Superman cape for me, also, as a guy who looks up to you ... looks up to American industry guys, nonpolitical, no bullshit - put the beep on it - however you wanna do it, five-second delay ..." Also attending is former National Football League great Jim Brown, a civil rights leader who has met with Trump previously.

But he said, "this hat, it gives me power". Or African Americans to read. "We're going to make certain categories tougher when it comes to drug dealing and other things, but there has to be a reform because it is very unfair right now", he said.

Kardashian West also attended a White House roundtable discussion last month focused on the clemency process. "And there are a lot of people that are in a situation like that, and we are actively looking for those situations", Mr. Trump said Wednesday.

Seizing the spotlight from the typically center-stage president, West dropped the F-word, floated policy proposals - and went in for a hug.
