Butler not with team; Thibodeau addresses practice behavior

Regarding Butler's comments about Towns and Wiggins, Thibodeau said: "To me, like they're young guys improving, this is a team sport".

"As to what has been reported in the past 24 hours, I have too much respect for Tom Thibodeau and all that he's accomplished in this league".

Thibodeau, the Wolves' president of basketball operations and head coach, told reporters that Butler stayed in Minneapolis to "work on his conditioning". But you can't get embarrassed.

That was the spin that Tom Thibodeau and Timberwolves players attempted to put on things Friday in Milwaukee, two days after Jimmy Butler spent practice reportedly hurling invectives at just about everybody on the court.

When Thibodeau was asked if he would like to clarify anything that he thought was inaccurately reported about Wednesday's practice, he declined to do so.

Butler's request to be traded from the Timberwolves was made public three weeks ago. "He was the biggest whiner going when he was playing and I know that because I coached against him".

Multiple reports indicated the Heat almost acquired Butler from the Wolves last offseason. "We always had practices like that in Chicago". However, point guard Jeff Teague went on Twitter to call that report "fake news", saying there was no such meeting.

Butler, a four-time All-Star, told ESPN's Rachel Nichols that he has made it clear to Timberwolves management for months that he does not see a long-term future with the franchise.

What's getting overlooked, George said, is that in pushing to get moved now, Butler is trying to allow the Timberwolves to get something back for him rather than seeing him leave as a free agent after the season and not have anything to show for it.

The Wolves canceled practice Thursday, and Thibodeau was not available to the media.
