Monaco name Thierry Henry head coach

"Monaco have ended their collaboration with Leonardo Jardim", the club said in a statement.

The 41-year-old French World Cup victor, who had been working as an assistant coach for the Belgian national team, signed a contract through until June 2021.

'Having started my footballing career with this great Club, it seems like fate that I will now begin my managerial career here too'.

Henry's first game in charge will be against Strasbourg next Saturday.

Henry graduated from Monaco's youth system and made his debut for the club in 1994.

The Champions League triumphs of Madrid under Zidane, the stunning La Liga title win for Atletico under Simeone and the golden era of Barcelona supremacy under Guardiola are all reflective of the potential for success with such a model of club management.

"I want to thank Monaco for giving me the opportunity to coach a club that is so special to me", he told the club's official website.

Henry is also his France's leading scorer with 51 goals and won the World Cup in 1998 and European Championship in 2000 with Les Bleus.

Henry was involved in the Belgium national team's coaching set-up.

"His knowledge of football, his passion for the game, his high standards and his commitment to our colours make his nomination a reality".

The 41-year-old former French striker took up his new job just 2 days after Leonardo Jardim was sacked following a poor start to the season. He can count on our trust and all our support to bring a new dynamic to the team and carry out the mission'.

Patrick Kwame Ampadu, a coach at Arsenal's academy and father of Chelsea and Wales player Ethan Ampadu, will join Henry's coaching staff, alongside Benfica Under-23 coach Joao Carlos Valado Tralhao.
