Both brothers, who have been named in England's training squad for the Autumn series, retreated to the bench, with Mako pictured with his leg in a protective brace and Billy with his arm packed in ice.

The Saracens No 8 fractured his right arm in a European Champions Cup game against Ospreys in January and re-broke it during England's second Test defeat by South Africa in June.

Michael Rhodes scored the only try as the Premiership champions came out on top in an almighty battle, England duo Mako Vunipola and Billy Vunipola withdrawn with ankle and arm injuries respectively.

Prop Mako Vunipola's calf strain and lock Nick Isiekwe's ankle sprain will also hand England boss Eddie Jones further headaches, with both now huge doubts to take part in England's autumn schedule.

Billy Vunipola has struggled for more than a year to play a sustained spell of rugby.

The 25-year-old needs surgery and will be out of action for up to 12 weeks.

Jones will name his squad for the Tests on Thursday, with England kicking off against the Springboks on 3 November. Sam Simmonds is already ruled out while Nathan Hughes is expected to pick up a suspension with his hearing on Wednesday.

The All Blacks face England at Twickenham on November 11 (NZT).
