More than 6 years have the fans waited for a game to join the line of the awesome Diablo series and we might finally have a name that we can put on these hopes and expectations. But not so, says Blizzard. While Blizzard prepares Diablo III's release on Nintendo Switch, with Diablo III: Eternal Collection, there's an even more ambitious project in the works.

Business Insider Australia asked about the feature while demoing Diablo III: Eternal Collection on Switch, and a Blizzard representative responded by saying "it's a matter of when, not if". Presently, the publisher can't disclose specifics.

Although there is no official announcement yet, Blizzard is reportedly in talks with Sony and Microsoft to enable cross-platform play across competing consoles.

The timing is certainly fitting, as Sony recently announced cross-play support for PS4 on Fortnite and other third-party content.

Diablo III is an incredibly popular action game which relies on higher difficulty levels and loot drops to keep players hooked. If there's a new Diablo game on the way, however, fans will have to sit back and wait for a potential reveal at BlizzCon, which begins November 2.

Whether or not Reign of Terror ends up being the title of a new Diablo game or expansion, we won't have too long to wait for the truth as BlizzCon 2018 is less than a month away. Nevertheless, we know the legendary dev/publisher has something new in store regarding their hellscape franchise, something besides the Nintendo Switch port.

Heading into BlizzCon 2018, Blizzard has released a ton of merch for people to buy on its store ahead of the actual show.
