Marvel Fires Comic Book Writer Who Called Brett Kavanaugh ‘Grotesque Monster’

Wendig noted in his Twitter thread that when Aftermath was released, it was immediately met with a deluge of one star reviews, despite just being released - suggesting a "downvote brigade" meant to hurt the author and brand rather than a series of earnest negative feedback.

Marvel confirmed to the Verge that Wendig had indeed been fired but did not want to comment any further on the record.

Marvel Comics made a decision to let Chuck Wendig go from the company following a tweet that was posted after Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation to the Supreme Court, which saw Wendig apparently call Kavanaugh (and probably Donald Trump) supporters a slur of expletives and also racists, rapists, abusers and more.

Lucasfilm Publishing announced at New York Comic Con last week that bestselling author Chuck Wendig (who's best known for the Aftermath trilogy) was writing a Shadow of Vader miniseries for Marvel Comics. Since the book's release, the harassment levied at Wendig has only intensified.

Wendig made the announcement on Twitter Friday afternoon, informing his followers that he would no longer write the final two issues of Shadow of Vader.

Wendig also said he has been the target of harassment for years, saying he had been required "to contact local police and warn them of SWATting attempts". And it made me very proud to work for them, too, not just because - holy hell, basking in the glow of STAR WARS, but because the people were great, and they totally got it. And privately, I was told by folks inside LFL that there was no worry here, that they valued that I spoke out both speaking up for myself and for STAR WARS, which has always honestly been a progressive brand and company. "Too much politics, too much vulgarity, too much negativity on my part". Do you think they will stop covering Star Wars comics as well? I am very sad, and anxious for the country I live in, and the world, and for creative people all around.
