She completed a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Elina Svitolina early on Saturday (her first ever Top 5 win) in a match that was held over due to rain on Friday, then edged Muguruza to book a final with 18-year-old Dayana Yastremska of the Ukraine. The Chinese played with objective and precision from start to finish to overwhelm No. 7 seed Daria Gavrilova 6-1 6-3, to move safely through to her first semifinal here in Hong Kong.

Wang, a semi finalist in Hong Kong past year, faces former world number one Garbine Muguruza later Saturday for place in the final.

18-year-old Dayana Yastremska and Wang Qiang from China met in the finals of the Open Tennis Championship in Hongkong.

Wang Qiang such misfires did not allow the Chinese made three breaks in a row and took the first set.

The victory, in which she posted 33 winners to 21 unforced errors, will move the 102nd-ranked Yastremska to a new career high ranking in the top 80 when the next rankings are released on Monday.

After the hard-fought first set, Garcia jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second. "I probably still feel that I'm confident with my game and with my experience and with my level", Muguruza said at the China Open.

"I had nothing to lose against her - she's a very good player", Wang said. "I think she played very well especially in the important moments, she came back in the third set playing incredible tennis", the Spanish world number 13 and fourth seed said.

Svitolina started the week as one of five players still in contention to earn a place in the eight-player WTA Finals in Singapore.

The Ukrainian becomes the sixth teenager to reach a final this year and second (Olga Danilovic is the other) to win a title.

The teen quickly went down 4-0 to outsider Kristina Kucova ― the world number 317 who knocked out Jelena Ostapenko in the first round ― before recovering to win 7-6 (8/6), 6-2.

"I was getting myself into too much trouble leaving the balls hanging in the middle of the court", said the Australian.
