Her place was confirmed after world number five Elina Svitolina confirmed she will not play an event this week.

Meanwhile, Caroline Garcia won her first title of the year as the French player defeated Pliskova to edge a nervy Tianjin Open final in China on Sunday.

'To do it for a second time in 2018 feels like a special achievement, especially having also won my first Grand Slam this year. Stephens joins fellow Grand Slam champions Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, Naomi Osaka, Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki in the singles field for the October 21-28 event.

Before that, there had been three spots left in the field for Singapore and four players-Stephens, Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina and Kiki Bertens- still in contention. "If I can't play here [in Moscow for the Kremlin Cup] I'm very doubtful that I will be able to play in Singapore.I don't know now, but for sure I will take a decision for my health first". A player who would finish ninth in the rankings will still have a chance to go to Singapore as an alternate together with Aryna Sabalenka, Elise Mertens, Anastasia Sevastova, and Daria Kasatkina who should determine the second alternate in Moscow as well.

This year Halep has won the Shenzhen Open and the Rogers Cup presented by Banque Nationale in Montréal as well as her debut Grand Slam crown at Roland Garros. While Stephens, Pliskova and Bertens are all playing in Moscow this week, Svitolina is taking the week off, which means that she can not move in front of the No. 6-placed Stephens.
