"Fortnite" Developer Epic Games Launches In-Game Tournaments Tomorrow

Fortnite still doesn't have a full-fledged competitive esports mode, and probably won't for a while, but Epic Games have just announced In-Game Tournaments will be part of their next update. "Each of these scheduled sessions is a completely clean slate-all players will begin with the same score and compete over several hours of intense competition to earn as many points as possible".

The change to controller sensitivity while building has prompted Epic Games to make changes to the slider used to dictate these settings, replacing the old 10 value slider with a new version that gives players more precise control over their sensitivity. Gamers must amass as many wins, or as many points, as they can. By playing well, competitors will be matched with others close to their ability level. There's also a score target for each tournament, and reaching it will award players with a pin.

Tournaments will pit players from all platforms against each other, from PC to console to mobile devices, regardless of whether they use a regular controller, mouse & keyboard, or touchscreen controls.

This does not mean Epic is against the idea of offering separate tournaments for each control method in the future, but that's how this initial rollout is going to look like. God help the touch players.

Description: Participate in the first in-game tournament, spanning across several days of daily competition!

"Fortnite's" Fall Skirmish event series will culminate at TwitchCon 2018. Epic invited 500 "Fortnite" players to compete in the event, dividing them into five different teams for the six-week skirmish season. Almost 80 million people played Fortnite during the month of August, and new content was recently released for season 6 of the game. Additionally, "later this year" eligible players will be able to enter a "Showdown Royale" tournament to attempt to qualify for the 2019 Fortnite World Cup.
