Giorgi defeated Margarita Gasparyan 6-3 3-6 6-2, recovering from a tricky second set to avoid following second seed Kiki Bertens in losing to the Russian in Austria.

Camila giorgi finished in second place in the last Linz WTA event a year ago.

The Italian won her first career title at the Ricoh Open in 's-Hertogenbosch on grass in 2015. In 2014 she lost to Karolina Pliskova at the Linz final after missing match points.

Set to claim a highest-ever world ranking, with the win seeing her break into the top 30, the first set was won with a single break of serve, the Italian breaking at 4-3, before holding to serve out to take the first set 6-3.

Playing her first WTA final, the Russian struggled to counter the attack-minded Giorgi as she punctuated the last service game of the opening set with an ace out wide to convert the first opportunity.

The Italian dropped only one set in her run to the final where she did not face a seeded player all week.

Giorgi is tentatively set to rise to a new career-high ranking on Monday, and will likely be seeded at the 2019 Australian Open - a possible relief to the game's biggest names given her reputation as a risky floater.
