In 2014, Museveni pushed through Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Act, which would make homosexuality punishable by life imprisonment.

During the visit, Museveni welcomed the couple to the country and wished them a memorable stay.

The US music star visited Museveni with his wife, Kim Kardashian, at the State House in Entebbe on Friday, October 12.

West is now in Uganda recording his delayed album YANDHI.

President Yoweri Museveni said he and the American rapper held "fruitful discussions" on Monday about promoting tourism and arts.

Kanye received the name "Kanyesigye", which means "I trust", while Kim got "Kemigisha", which apparently means "the one with blessings from God". "We're going to Africa in two weeks to record".

Kanye had earlier told TMZ that he felt a need to connect with his roots in Africa, and the need to showcase that in his yet to be released album. "We have to go to what is known as Africa".

The rapper wanted to finish his latest album, Yandhi, in nature and at a location where his children could be with him.

The Golddigger hitmaker surprised fans when he posted an impromptu performance from Uganda on his Twitter account over the weekend.

Mr Museveni, 74, has been in office since 1986 and in January signed a law that scrapped a 75-year age cap for presidential candidates, a move that critics said was aimed at him remaining in power indefinitely.

It is West's second audience with a president in under a week after meeting Donald Trump last Thursday.

"He can speak for me any time he wants, he's a smart cookie", Trump said.

Museveni's comments struck a very different tone from remarks by leaders of other African nations - including Botswana, Ghana, Namibia and Senegal, as well as the African Union - who denounced Trump's inflammatory language.
