Not only will it bring up small red charger icons telling you where available ones are located, it will also give information about what ports are required for each, how many there are at each destination and if they are slow, fast or rapid systems.

New features are consistently added to the app thanks to updates from Google. Google is taking steps to make living an EV lifestyle a little less of a pain, adding new information about charging stations to Google Maps starting this week. This isn't limited to locating an electric charging station - that information has been available within Maps for a while, though to varying degrees depending on the country. So of course Google is going to try and help with finding charging stations as people drive from one location to another.

Additional details from drivers, including photos, ratings, reviews, and questions will also appear in search results.

Users of the Google Maps app on both iPhones and Android phones will be able to use the functionality to find their nearest EV charging station, starting today. In the U.S., it will also source info about SemaConnect, EVgo and Blink stations.

That means if users type "EV charging" or "EV charging stations", relevant information will be displayed.

So far, Tesla and Chargepoint locations are supported in Australia as well as globally, as well as Melbourne-based ChargeFox/JET Charge, who have over 330 plugs available to EV drivers across Australia and New Zealand.

This enhanced searchability is rolling out on Android and iOS now, and is coming to desktop over the next few weeks.
