The duchess brought with her for tea a homemade loaf of banana bread that she reportedly made in the kitchen of the Admiralty House in Sydney, where she and Prince Harry are staying.

The royal couple, who announced they were expecting on Monday, took a tram ride with several school students in Melbourne, Australia as part of their first joint royal tour, and were quizzed by the children about the baby during their brief ride to the beach.

"She even had corgis", Richens said.

It was prepared by young chefs being trained by the Mission Australia programme, which assists young indigenous Australians into employment, in many cases giving them a fresh start in life.
