Donald Trump threatens to CLOSE border with Mexico - ‘Stop this onslaught!’

Earlier Thursday, Trump threatened to send the military to close the US-Mexican border against an "onslaught" of Central American migrants.

Trump claimed that "Criminal elements and DRUGS [are] pouring in" and that it is "All Democrats [sic] fault for weak laws!"

Trump warned Mexico that if it fails to stop the onslaught, he would close the southern border.

Trump did not detail his military threat, nor his comments on the trilateral trade deal.

President Trump has called on Honduran and Mexican authorities to stop the caravan getting to the United States - which it could do in the coming weeks. The rest would have to apply for refugee status or face deportation.

The specifics of Trump's latest plan to use military personnel in the immigration dispute are unclear.

"Republicans must make the horrendous, weak and outdated immigration laws, and the Border, a part of the Midterms!" he continued.

Mr Trump's threat came as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo prepared to travel later in the day to Panama and then Mexico City, where he was to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pea Nieto on Friday.

Because children are afforded special protections in the US, their arrival is creating anxiety within the Trump administration that has pledged to decrease illegal immigration.

Vaughan stressed that it is a good sign that Mexico is realizing that it has more to gain than lose by cooperating with the US on border enforcement.
