Google Maps Gets Real Time Journey Tracking on iOS

The new option will allow you to share information like your live location, route, and ETA with anyone in your contact list. The feature was recently updated for Android users back in August and now it can be used from an iPhone, as well. The improved trip sharing feature is similarly available for bicycling and walking. It lets you send ETAs to friends and family based on satellite data - not empty promises.

In addition, Google has also made it so that sharing can be done through third-party messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. If you don't have the update there's no use spamming the Google Play Store, this looks like a server-side switch.

Google finally brought location sharing back to Maps in 2017, and it's getting more useful today.

There's an obvious benefit to the feature: users can keep track of someone whose trip may otherwise be concerning. You can also stop sharing manually as well.

For those at the receiving end follow the link and you'll get see the current progress of the trip including destination, eta, location (obviously) and a few other details.

Have you tried out this feature yet?
