Luke Cage's second season arrived this past summer and introduced Bushmaster as the primary antagonist, along with a team-up between the title hero and Iron Fist and the debut of Misty Knight's robotic arm.

The news was announced tonight via The Hollywood Reporter, with Netflix and Marvel releasing a joint statement addressing the matter.

"Unfortunately, Marvel's Luke Cage will not return for a third season", Marvel and Netflix said in a statement. The streaming service has confirmed that after two seasons, Luke Cage is cancelled.

Jones shared an image of his Danny Rand combining the might of his iron fist with the near-impervious and super-strong fist of Cage (Mike Colter), captioning the photo with a simple heart and hands representing each hero. Especially in a world where Netflix proudly championed its stable of Marvel series as something that would continue to thrive in a post-Disney streaming service future. With this cancellation, Netflix now has only three remaining Marvel shows on its roster: "Marvel's Jessica Jones", "Marvel's The Punisher, and "Marvel's Daredevil", the latter of which just debuted its third season today".

Netflix has canceled "Luke Cage".

We reached out to Netflix for comment but had not heard back at time of writing.
