Fortnite Save the World will not go free-to-play in 2018

While Fortnite Battle Royale is the title that most people think of when discussing Fortnite, Save the World was actually the original mode, released in July of 2017, and costs around £35 in the United Kingdom and $40 in the US. It's true: Save the World is often overshadowed by its BR counterpart-something which might subside somewhat when the former also goes free-to-play. The Standard, Deluxe, Super Deluxe, and Limited Founder's packs, each coming with different levels of content and bonuses, are all available for half-off starting this week, Epic Games said.

Save the World players still have something to be excited about though, as Epic are giving them some free skins to enjoy: "To thank our founders, both new and old, if you log in and play during the Fortnitemares Event, you'll receive both Brainiac Jonesy and Skull Ranger Ramirez for free!"

Among the changes planned are alterations to the game's user interface in order to make it easier to understand through reorganizing the menu system. At the end of this revamp we want to move more of your Fortnite experience into the game rather than in the front-end.

Elsewhere, Save the World is getting an overhauled Hero System which should grant players more flexibility and customisation of loadouts.

A new Hero system is also rolling out with six hero slots instead of three. After picking your main Hero, the additional five will dictate your perks and traits.

This year's Halloween event was teased earlier today, and the latest update directs players to Hexsylvania to revisit last year's Vlad Moon Rising questline.

With all of the changes in the pipeline, Epic is working on a way to refund players for invested materials. We will NOT automatically de-level your items. If you played the event a year ago you may notice a few changes... and even more Vlad than before. New visitors to Hexsylvania will deliver some spooky world saving, as Ray and company confront history's evil-est Vlad.
