OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirms 5G device next year

The list of companies that will launch smartphones with the X50 5G NR modem includes Asus, HMD Global, LG, Motorola, Oppo, Sony, vivo, and Xiaomi. While the OnePlus 6T is set to launch in NY launch on October 29, the company's co-founder Carl Pei has already teased 2019's OnePlus 7 or OnePlus 7T.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei at an event confirmed that his company would be coming out with a 5G device next year and will be one of the initial companies to do so. OnePlus' official also said that to his knowledge his company's 5G smartphone will be one of the first of its kind to be available on the market next year.

Now, considering the top-notch specs of OnePlus phones, changes are that this 5G smartphone will also be a true flagship.


Pei confirmed the company has been experimenting with 5G technology, and will be ready to introduce a phone ready for 5G connectivity by the end of 2019.

Speaking at the 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong, Qualcomm's president Cristiano Amon said we should prepare to see at least two flagship 5G smartphones in 2019.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm has reportedly also revealed some more details regarding the first wave of 5G Snapdragon handsets that would arrive in 2019. It will rely on the Snapdragon X50 modem with the downsized QTM052 mmWave antenna module, announced at the conference.
