Roman Reigns diagnosed with leukemia, taking leave from WWE

He opened WWE Monday Night RAW by announcing to the crowd that he's no longer able to defend his belt due to his battle with leukemia.

Therefore, Braun Strowman will face Brock Lesnar one-on-one at Crown Jewel to determine a new WWE Universal Champion.

After the announcement, the WWE made an official statement revealing some additional details on Anoa'i's condition.

WWE Universal Champ Roman Reigns kicked of Monday Night Raw with a stunning announcement, saying: "I've been living with leukemia for 11 years, and unfortunately it's back..."

Reigns had been the WWE's Universal champion since August 19 when he won the title for the first time, ending Brock Lesnar's 500-plus-day reign as the champion.


We wish Joe (Roman) and his family all the very best and this is a fight we know you can win.

"I feel like I owe everyone an apology", Reigns said. "And because the leukaemia is back, I cannot fulfil my role, I can't be that fighting champion [I said I would be]", Anoa'i announced live to fans.

"I want to make one thing clear, by no means is this a retirement speech, because after I'm done [beating] leukaemia once again, I'm coming back home".

The support and love he will surely receive from the WWE community will help keep him strong during this pressing time. "You always reacted to me and because of that I have to say thank you so much".

Reigns left the ring and was joined by Shield stablemates Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose at the top of the ramp, who embraced to the applause of the fans.
