Fans of the late British physicist famed for his work exploring the origins of the universe have a chance to buy some of his possessions.

It may be unusual that people are paying the price of a new vehicle for a wheelchair a famous scientist once used, but the upside to all of this is that the proceeds from this and other Hawking-related auction items will go to the Stephen Hawking Foundation and the Motor Neuron Disease Association, both of which are causes that Hawking cared deeply about. The proceeds are going to the Stephen Hawking Foundation and the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Well, that's (Rs 94,29,000 - Rs 1,41,43,000 roughly).

A nine-day online auction of physicist Stephen Hawking's memorabilia, including his motorized wheelchair, began on Wednesday.

"The whole idea.was to provide something that was accessible to his admirers so that people could connect with him and remember his extraordinary story".

Other documents, an invitation to a reception for "Time Travellers" as well as a motorised wheelchair Prof Hawking used, are also being sold in the Oct 31 to Nov 8 online auction.

The auction items have already attracted interest from Asia, the Middle East, the United States and Australia, according to Mr Venning.

"(Hawking) traveled across the world and he has fans in the USA, he has fans in Asia", he said. It explains some of the mysteries of space left unsolved by Albert Einstein's theory of relativity.
