ALEC HOLLAND & SWAMP THING Cast for DC UNIVERSE

Deadline reports that the newest residents of DC Universe's Swamp Thing are Will Patton, recently seen in this year's Halloween, and Virginia Madsen, who famously tangled with another supernatural monster in Candyman and recently appeared in ABC's Designated Survivor. The pair will be joining the Swamp Thing cast, which already includes Crystal Reed, and Maria Sten.

DC Universe's Swamp Thing has dredged up someone to play its title character: Andy Bean (Power) will star as Alec Holland, aka Swamp Thing, in the upcoming streaming series, TVLine has learned.

Alec Holland is described as: "Passionate biologist Alec Holland is caught in the crosshairs of a small town nightmare when he discovers a weird local illness may be connected to his work in the swamp". This will not be the first time Mears plays a supernatural being as he played the role of Jason Voorhees in the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot. He soon finds he has to use his newfound powers to defend the Louisiana town of Marais from "dark forces" that arise. Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica, Netflix's Daredevil) and Gary Dauberman (It) are attached to co-write the series and act as showrunners, with James Wan (Aquaman) set to executive-produce the series alongside Verheiden, Dauberman, and Michael Clear.

The two will share the lead duties, which makes it seem like Swamp Thing will be filled with flashbacks to show Holland's life before suffering the accident that transforms him.

Mears' role was rumored months ago, but was only just confirmed by Warner Bros. Television. The pilot episode is written by Verheiden and Dauberman, with Wiseman set to direct. Let us know in the comment section below!

Should Swamp Thing be picked up to series, it would join Titans in the live-action sector of DC Universe and other original series (albeit animated) Young Justice: Outsiders and Harley Quinn.
