Update: Soltero confirmed he is leaving via a thread on Twitter on November 6.

Cortana's corporate vice president, Javier Soltero, is leaving Microsoft after four years with the company, he tweeted on Tuesday.

We've asked Microsoft if it can confirm the departure.

Any way you look at it, Cortana is now being tossed around inside of Microsoft and has been without a solid leader for the past couple of years. "Bringing together all of our work in natural language, intelligence and assistance - including Cortana - enables us to innovate faster for developers, partners and customers".

Soltero joined Microsoft when it bought at the end of 2014 Acompli, a mobile mail startup in San Francisco which he co-founded and led. But the founder, Javier Soltero, is departing Microsoft.

Last month, Microsoft officials confirmed that Cortana was one of the technologies that management was moving from AI + Research to the Experiences & Devices team, which is under Executive Vice President Rajesh Jha.

Foley reported that Soltero's departure comes as part of the company's engineering reorganization announced earlier this year.

He saw turning Microsoft's rapidly fading personal digital assistant around as a challenge, saying: "It's exciting". At the same time, Microsoft and Amazon have been steadily unveiling new integrations between Alexa and Cortana, the fruits of a surprising alliance announced past year.
