Ex-Seahawks, Raiders LB Irvin signs with Falcons

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora identified the Falcons - along with the Patriots and Seahawks - as a likely landing spot.

They seem to have been keeping that spot open for defensive end Bruce Irvin, an Atlanta native, who chose to spurn the Patriots in favor of the Falcons.

Irvin played just nine snaps in the Raiders' 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night and was believed to be on the block prior to the trade deadline.

Irvin's signing with Atlanta should help out with putting pressure on the quarterback.

"This was a dream [come] true", said Irvin. "The Patriots and Steelers offered more money, but being able to play for my city and my people, you just can't put a price on that".

Bigger picture, Pittsburgh was in the market for a pass rusher and we need to unpack this information. So despite the excellent performance of Trey Flowers and the Patriots defensive front against the Green Bay Packers, they still felt they could use more push in that department.

The Falcons have won three straight games though their defense, ravaged by injuries, remains a liability; the unit ranks 30th, according to Football Outsiders, ahead of only the Raiders and Buccaneers.
