Pominville tribute lifts Sabres to 9-2 win over Senators

Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula presented Pominville with a silver saber before the game and fans were given commemorative placards that read "Welcome to Pominville, Population: 1000". The 9 goals are the most goals scored in 1 game for the Sabres since October 2006. Pominville, who reached the milestone against the Senators on Thursday, scored two goals Saturday.

Mittelstadt scored his second goal of the season late in the third to extend Buffalo's lead to 9-1. Zemgus Girgensons scored his first goal of the season, Sam Reinhart recorded 2 more assists, and Conor Sheary snapped his 8 game goalless streak. So far through 14 games played, the center has a single goal and 7 assists for a total of 8 points. I just feel that we want to get a better road game than we had in Arizona. "They came out as strong as we've seen all year and most probably because the players wanted to have a great night for Pominville".

Pominville made it 3-0 when he batted a bouncing puck after Skinner's shot, chasing Anderson with 5:35 left in the first period. Skinner put the Sabres up 2-0 less than a minute and a half later at 6:28, and Pominville extended the lead to 3-0 when he scored on a rebound at 14:25. The first two came in a span of 13 seconds.

Berglund then set up Girgensons from behind the net to put the Sabres up 5-0.

Don't fret, he'll be back to work Saturday afternoon in the Senators' net.

Sabres head coach Phil Housley said after the game that he would make the trip to New York City for Sunday's matchup with the New York Rangers. Buffalo is in the midst of playing three of 12 games at home after opening the season with a four-game homestand.

Sam Reinhart is in a hard situation for the Buffalo Sabres, as he now seems to slot in as the third line center of the future.
