Russell Westbrook has been battling through injury this season and the Oklahoma City Thunder star is now dealing with an ankle sprain. It initially appeared to be serious but the team said he suffered a sprained ankle and the x-rays were negative.

Westbrook was leaping for a rebound against Anthony Davis and came down awkwardly, rolling over in pain before slapping the floor. Westbrook immediately fell to the floor in pain, and ultimately limped to the locker room with the help of team trainers. "I was just hoping it wasn't his knee".

"I think motivated us even more", Dennis Schröder said.

With the energy sucked completely out of the building, the Pelicans quickly hit the Thunder for a 7-0 run, but OKC responded by finishing the third quarter on a 16-4 burst to take a 14-point lead headed to the fourth.

The team announced Tuesday that their All-Star point guard will miss Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but ESPN reported that the ankle injury he sustained on Monday night is only a sprain and Westbrook isn't being ruled out beyond Wednesday. "Sums it up. Feels real bad". Before his exit, Westbrook scored 17 points in 25 minutes of play.

Westbrook, 29, is averaging 24.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game in seven appearances so far season.

Heading into this game, Andre Roberson was the only key inactive for either team as he is still recovering from left knee surgery that he underwent to fix a torn left patellar tendon.

Westbrook has had five surgeries on his right knee in his career.
