Dutch Pensioner Identifies Himself as 20 Years Younger, Demands Legal Age Change

Emile Ratelband, a 69-year old Dutch pensioner, author, former millionaire, and founder of Ratelband Research Institute and the Ratelband Foundation, has started a legal battle to have his actual age changed legally.

Emile Ratelband told a court in Arnhem in the Netherlands that he did not feel "comfortable" with his date of birth, and compared his wish to alter it to people who identified as transgender.

It's reported that the court was sceptical of the lawsuit, believing that there was no legal grounds that would allow a person to change their birth date.

"If I put on Tinder that I am 69, I will not get a response.[As] 49, with that face of mine, then I'm rammed", he said.

He said his doctors told him he had the body of someone more than 20 years younger than himself.

Mr Ratelband said: "When I'm 69, I am limited".

"I feel young, I am in great shape and I want this to be legally recognised because I feel abused, aggrieved and discriminated against because of my age".

In turn, Mr Ratelband sued them, bringing the case to a court in the city of Arnhmen, in the eastern Dutch province of Gelderland. "Nowhere are you so discriminated against as with your age", he was quoted as saying by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf on Oct 27.

'If I'm 49, then I can buy a new house, drive a different auto. "I can take up more work", he continued.

"You can change your name. My biological age is 45 years".

The Netherlands' constitution expressly prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of age.

He complains that companies are reluctant to hire someone the age of a pensioner as a consultant.

And he added that a change to his age would also be good news for the Dutch government as he would be renouncing his pension until he reaches retirement age again.

The judge said that he had some sympathy with Mr Ratelband as people could now change their gender which would once have been unthinkable. "Who was that little boy back then?"

Ratelband, a motivational speaker and trainer in neurolinguistic programming, said his parents were dead.

The court must decide within four weeks.
