Late Manchester United double downs Juventus

Mourinho was confronted by Juventus defender Bonucci, who was visibly displeased at the two-time European champion's celebrations, but United captain Ashley Young was quick to step in and separate the two from further squabbles.

Juan Mata's free-kick and an Alex Sandro own goal saw United claim a surprise 2-1 win to end Juve's ideal record in Group H.

Do you think Mourinho showed a lack of class?

United had fallen behind in the match through a magnificent goal from former hero Cristiano Ronaldo, who superbly volleyed home a long range pinpoint ball that dropped over his shoulder from Leonardo Bonucci on 65 minutes. "We know that (Juventus) is a big team and, to be honest, when they scored a goal, we had nothing to lose".

I thought Juve were very unfortunate to lose after looking great in possession and unsafe around the box, but as soon as Juan Mata stepped up to take that free-kick I had a feeling it was going in.

This was not a great United performance but it was an outstanding result. Juve still lead with nine points but United are second on seven, crucially two ahead of Valencia in third place, while Young Boys are bottom of the group and out of the competition.

As I said on 5 live, I would not single out any of United's players for praise.

United kept possession very patiently but without Romelu Lukaku did not have a clear threat up front. There was more of a thread between United's attacking players against Juve than there is when Lukaku plays.

Regardless of how well they are playing, however, it's going to be very tough for them against Manchester City on Sunday.

Mourinho also claimed United have "one final to play" if they want to get through.

"It really just never gets old does it?"

Having spoken bullishly in the prematch news conference about his form, happiness and United's prospects of winning a major trophy, Pogba was applauded back to Turin by the Juventus fans before the game. He'd probably decline to celebrate if he could redo it, but at least he quickly realized what he did will be seen as wrong by the United fans and tried to make up for it.

This was Pogba on one of his bad days.

Sanchez then should have done a lot better from a freekick, only managing to hit Ronaldo in the wall, before a quick counter attack saw Sami Khedira blast the ball into David De Gea's hands from 25 yards.

Pogba has talent, that is without question.
