To promote her upcoming movie Isn't It Romantic, the Aussie actress touted herself as the "first-ever plus-sized girl to be the star of a romantic comedy" on Ellen and Instagram.

While the shift in the entertainment business is welcoming a progressive and more accepting approach in films at a frequent pace, Hollywood star Rebel Wilson may have told herself she is the first-plus sized actor to appear in a rom-com.

Meanwhile, the Pitch Perfect 3 star previously admitted she thinks it is her size that makes her amusing.

Wilson said in a tweet that she neglected the achievements of others, including Ricki Lake, Melissa McCarthy, Queen Latifah, Mo'Nique, and probably a plethora of other talented and ambitious women. And for that reason, "it makes it that much more embarrassing and hard to acknowledge".

And she said that the people she blocked "are the people I actually need to hear from more, not less". "I never want to disrespect anyone", she said.

"Isn't It Romantic" also stars Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine, and Priyanka Chopra.

Wilson, meanwhile, was further lambasted when she blocked some Twitter users who were critical of her remarks, inspiring a #RebelWilsonBlockedMe hashtag.

A number of Twitter users have also come up with other romantic comedies that fit the bill of having plus-sized female leads, including 1994 Australian hit Muriel's Wedding starring Toni Collette. "Queen Latifah and Mo'Nique have both played rom-com leads".

Rebel replied by insisting she never meant to erase anybody else's achievements, and added, "I support all plus size ladies and everything positive we are doing together".

However, many were quick to point out the inaccuracy in her claim, which was downright false, pointing out that Queen Latifah has starred in a number of romantic comedies.

Which led to Mo'Nique urging Rebel to "know the history". "I wish you the best".
