Sony quietly releases a less noisy PS4 Pro

Currently, the new version of the PlayStation 4 Pro is only available as part of a Red Dead Redemption 2 bundle, although it is expected to become widely available in the near future.

There's a moment playing Infamous First Light, as the heroine made of light climbs up a wall in pitch black darkness, that I fully appreciate the hype around the PS4 Pro.

"This is quietest, most discreet Pro yet, completely banishing the "jet engine" effect commonly associated with launch models", The Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter explains.

Unless it's a major update, companies tend not to make a big fuss about new console SKUs.

Do you have one of these new models, by chance? "But PlayStation 5 is still years away, and in the here and now, the CUH-7200 series is the best version of the PlayStation 4 Pro hardware on the market".

It seems that Sony's started pushing a new PS4 Pro model, as pointed out by Digital Foundry. However, it's suspected that Sony has achieved this at the cost of thermal reduction, meaning this model may get a lot toastier than its predecessors. The only way to tell is to check the label or the back of the console, which now uses the same "figure 8" power plug as the PS4 Slim and Microsoft's Xbox Ones. In the United Kingdom, at least, Digital Foundry believes CUH-7200s are only being distributed as part of the Red Dead Redemption 2 bundle pack for the time being, but a full rollout is nearly certain to follow soon.
