But a mental health professional who spoke with Long said he did not believe Long needed to be hospitalized.

Kelly also survived the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in 2017.

The man who shot and killed 12 people in Thousand Oaks, California, was identified on Monday as Ian David Long.

Survivors of the shooting said the gunman, dressed in black and wearing glasses, shot a security guard outside and then shot a young woman working at the counter just inside the door before opening fire on others.

Ventura County Sheriff's Office Capt. Garo Kuredjian said at a news conference early Thursday that a sheriff's deputy was also shot and taken to a hospital. Dean says Helus calls his wife several times every shift, according to ABC News.

Dean said Long was armed with a single handgun, a.45 caliber Glock 21, which he purchased legally.

"He went in there to save people and made the ultimate sacrifice", Dean said.

Authorities have no motive yet.

"As you know, these are ongoing investigations and that information will come out as soon as we are able to determine exactly who the suspect was and what motive he might have had for this horrific event".

"We would go to Borderline together".

"For me, not going is not going to help the situation".

"I said we go, and we ran", he said.

The Borderline is popular with students and on Wednesday night had hosted College Country Night. The whole bar is line dancing.

"I tried to get as many people to cover as I could", Knapp said.

Long was found dead in the Borderline Bar and Grill after 12 people were shot to death late on Wednesday. The friend expressed shock that Long could be a killer. "I knew something was wrong straight away". He was always happy. I want gun control.

"We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time".

Jacklyn Pieper, a colleague and childhood friend of Manrique's, said that he arrived at the local bar ahead of his friends and entered just "as all hell broke loose".

A third friend who did not want to be publicly identified said Long stopped communicating two years ago but said the shooting was unlike him.

"He wasn't unhinged, he wasn't violent".

"It took a couple of seconds for people to realize what was going on and once that happened it was just utter chaos", he said. I had to protect my friends and family, my fellow humans'. The 28-year-old was on active duty with the marines from August 2008 to March 2013, CNN reported, citing the Department of Defense.

The 33-year-old served with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, deploying to Afghanistan in 2007 with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, according to the outlet.

Long was a veteran and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. "There's double doors and we have gone above and beyond making sure everyone is being safe here". It was holding its weekly country music and dance night at the time of the shooting.

"We must find a way to stop the senseless, and many times preventable killings that are robbing our country of innocent lives", Nadler tweeted. Other witnesses described people using bar stools to break windows and escape.

Neighbours said Thursday they would hear loud, aggressive fights between the two.

A settlement agreement stated, "Irreconcilable differences have caused the irremediable breakdown of our marriage".

Later, he enrolled at nearby California State University, Northridge, last attending in 2016, the school said in a statement.

Deputies were called to Long's house in response to a disturbance in April, 2018 and "felt he might be suffering from PTSD", he said.
