The L.A. auto show press days run from November 28-29, and the show opens to the public November 30-December 9.

The teaser pics and videos that have been released thus far show that the hatchback version's styling will remain faithful to last year's Kai concept, while the latest preview pic confirms that there will also be a sleek sedan derivative.

Mazda says the new model will adopt a "richer interpretation" of the brand's so-called Kodo design language, while also claiming the "fundamental performance attributes" of the vehicle have been "raised to a new level". The manufacturer states that the Mazda3 marks the beginning of a new generation of models delivering "new dimensions of driving pleasure".

The fourth-generation version of this compact auto is expected to get the firm's new SkyActiv-X gasoline engines, promising reduced fuel consumption and performances similar to diesels. Mazda says the new platform "enables people to make the most of their natural sense of balance", suggesting intuitive handling characteristics.

Unlike a regular gasoline engine, in which the fuel-air mixture is ignited by a spark, Skyactiv-X will employ an approached used by diesel engines, which compress the fuel until it becomes so hot it ignites.
