Tommy Makinson has won the RLIF Golden Boot award after starring in England's series win over New Zealand.

The 27-year-old's surprise selection for the award caps off a breakthrough season on the global scene.

Makinson is only the fifth Englishman to win the award, following in the footsteps of Ellery Hanley, Garry Schofield, Andy Farrell and Kevin Sinfield.

However, Tedesco was hurt by the judging criteria in 2018, with the award recognising the most outstanding performances in global football. The final game is at Elland Road on Sunday.

Tedesco made his debut for Australia in the Kangaroos' loss to New Zealand last month before they bounced back to beat Tonga.

The winger only made his worldwide debut this year, playing and scoring a try in the Denver test against the Kiwis, and was players man of the match in the first test at Hull before scoring a hat-trick at Anfield last weekend.

The announcement was met with mixed response on social media.

The award is handed to the player who has had the greatest impact over the year at worldwide level, it was won in 2017 by Cameron Smith just before they beat England in the World Cup Final, and awarded by Rugby League World magazine after a ballot by rugby league global representatives.

The Golden Boot joins Kelly's already massive trophy cabinet for the year, which also includes the women's top award at the Brad Fittler Medal presentation for NSW's best player, and the Nellie Doherty Medal for best on ground in State of Origin. Kelly was nominated alongside teammates Ali Brigginshaw and Brittany Breayley, while New Zealand's Honey Hireme and England's Georgia Roche - the first victor of the Woman of Steel award - were also nominated.

Isabelle Kelly has been named the best female rugby league player in the world.

The selection panel, which was comprised of members of the rugby league media on both sides of the world, cited the "spectacular way in which both players have adapted to the rigours of the global game".
