England winger Raheem Sterling has finally agreed to the bumper new deal with Manchester City.

Raheem Sterling has signed a three-year contract extension at Manchester City, committing him to the club until 2023 in a deal worth up to £300,000 a week.

Real Madrid are still looking for their Cristiano Ronaldo replacement, but their top Gareth Bale replacement has rejected any move by signing a new long-term deal.

However, despite that, Real Madrid had targeted Raheem Sterling as a potential replacement and given the 23-year old's form and contract issues, he would have been the ideal target come the January window.

"My development here has been incredible". That decision was perceived to be for money at the time but Carragher is convinced Sterling made the right choice as a youngster, even if it was bad news for The Reds. "It's paid off and I'm really grateful".

Sterling joined City from Liverpool in 2015 and has gone on to make 154 appearances for the club, winning two League Cup medals and the Premier League thus far.

Just as significantly, he represents everything we want in our best young England players; technically gifted, focused, ambitious, hungry to learn and very intelligent tactically.

'With the facilities we've got here there's no reason not to. "How we've developed with Pep with and without the ball, it's always nice for attacking players to have as much possession as possible, It's been a real joy".

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: 'This is a significant moment for the club. Raheem was guaranteed to compete for the Premier League and Champions League every season, and work under one of the best managers of all-time.

'His statistics tell their own story.

'He's quick, strong and excellent in front of goal - everything a modern-day forward needs to excel.
