Thousands of fans marched from Jubilee Square to the stadium before the Premier League game against Burnley.

Boss Claude Puel admitted preparations for the Burnley game had been hard after a 12,000-mile round trip but said it was important to the players to pay their respects.

The Italian was in charge when Leicester secured one of the most remarkable stories in football history, before his departure in February past year, and has accepted the club's invitation to attend the game.

A special "Tribute to Khun Vichai" video will be shown on big screens before kick-off followed by a two-minute silence and fans will receive commemorative scarves and souvenir matchday programmes in honour of the club's late chairman.

With Vichai's family in attendance, Leicester's players, who made a 19,000 km round trip to Thailand for the funeral in midweek, wore a special commemorative shirt, while nearly every fan sported one of the specially distributed scarves bearing the words "Forever In Our Hearts".

They will switch shirts for the second half to jerseys which will feature an embroidered poppy in honour of Remembrance Sunday.

Schmeichel has been especially affected, having watched the helicopter take off from the pitch before it appeared to go into a fateful spin.

"It definitely hit me", he said.

Earlier on Friday, Leicester begun the hard task of moving tributes to Mr Srivaddhanaprabha - including flowers, shirts and poems - from outside the North Stand to a designated memorial area close to the accident site on the other side of the stadium.

Stories have emerged of Vichai's acts of generosity to the club's supporters and players and sizeable donations he made to local hospitals.

Leicester players hold a banner in honour of late owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha after their Premier League win against Cardiff. "They have learned a lot about themselves in all this and I am proud of them all".

"It's not easy to prepare this game, but the togetherness between us all, it's a good feeling, a good energy, a fantastic strength", he added.

He said: "It's going to be tough as it's the first home game back and because of the circumstances of how it all happened, it's going to be very tough, but we'll have to keep our emotions together".
