Video Game Strategy Guide Publisher Prima Games Is Shutting Down

"DK announced the extremely hard decision that they will no longer commission new Prima Games strategy guides following a significant decline in the video game guide sector, and the US-based imprint will be discontinued in Spring 2019 after 28 years of publication".

Reported initially on EGM Now, the news was confirmed by the Dorling Kindersley division of Penguin Random House. Crikey, what a year. Prima Games opted to aim for the collectors' market, with high-quality, hardcover books that often came packed in with extras and bonuses like art, controller skins, and more. While Roseville's will shut down by mid-November, the Indianapolis office will continue publishing until March 2019. DK says that it is "now in conversation with all colleagues in Roseville, Indianapolis and NY who have been impacted by this announcement", with the Roseville office set to close as early as mid-November.

Commenting on the news, Dorling Kindersley explained the decision was an "extremely difficult" one to make.

Prima Games has sold millions of PC and console video game strategy guides since its founding 28 years ago.

Anyone who grew up devouring old strategy guides will no doubt feel bummed out about this. Ultimate guide, for instance, will still be released.

Prima Games will close down fully by Spring 2019. Before merging with fellow strategy guide publisher BradyGames in 2015.
