Facebook users noticed the similarity when police posted surveillance-camera footage last month of a man carrying a carton of cans from a restaurant in Blackpool, northwest England.

Today, Lancashire Police posted an update on the investigation into the alleged theft in the town on 20 September. Another posted: "I bet he was shouting "PIVOT" as he picked those beers up". His job's a joke, he's broke. He denied he was responsible for the crime and insisted he had been in NY when the alleged theft had taken place.

Lancashire constabulary quickly made clear that the suspect was not Schwimmer, stating: "Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses".

After this hilarious incident, the police confirmed that the man in the picture was indeed not David and that he was in America when the theft happened.

He captioned the video: 'Officers, I swear it wasn't me.

Netizens flooded the post with thousands of comments, quoting famous lines and running gags related to Schwimmer's most beloved and well-known character to date, Ross from Friends. Authorities thanked everyone involved in the apprehension - including Schwimmer. As you can see, I was in NY.

Yes, police think they have found the David Schwimmer lookalike who allegedly stole a crate of beer from a shop in Blackpool.

They quickly found their Facebook feed inundated with replies and merriment after they posted an image of the man, who was the spitting image of the love-lorn USA sitcom star.
